Marketing Funnels for Pro Photographers
Quick! Tell me the most important spot for you to focus your attention to grow your photography business.
Is it on your marketing? Content? Sales? Client workflow?
The answer is… it’s different for every single one of us. And it changes constantly.
But here’s the real kicker…
Without a consistent way to track and optimize how clients flow through your business, you’ll never really know if you’re spending your time on the most important aspect of your business at any given time.
And that is where Marketing Funnels come in.
In this first episode of a new weekly “Funnel Friday” series we’ll introduce the concept of marketing funnels for photographers and why they’re (incredibly) important for your photography business.

Hey what’s up. Welcome to the first funnel Friday. So what is a funnel and why are we talking about kitchen utensils?
A funnel, when it comes to your business is a way for us to visualize and track and manage the flow of people through our business. So think of it this way, you start at the top of the funnel, right?
That wide open part… that is just people on the internet, right? From there, we get a subset of those internet people to come to our website, and then a subset of those are gonna join our mailing list. And some of those are going to inquire about a session. Some of those are then going to book you and those will turn into sales. Hopefully all of those will turn into sales, right? And then those clients who purchased are gonna turn into repeat clients. And then finally those repeat clients are going to refer you to their friends and their family.
So the idea here is that even small improvements on any of these steps can make a dramatic difference in your bottom.
If we can make even 1% improvements in a couple of these steps, that adds up to a lot by the time they reach the bottom of this funnel.
So every Friday we’re gonna take just a couple of minutes and we’re gonna dig into a specific piece of this funnel.
We’re gonna talk about what it is, why it’s important and how you can continually optimize it to grow your photography business.
So here’s what I want you to do:
I want you to grab a sheet of paper and a pen or a pencil or a crayon or whatever. Okay. Got it? Great. I want you to write down all of the different layers of your funnel.
Now don’t be surprised if it matches pretty closely or exactly, to what I just said. Remember? Internet. Website visitors, mailing list, subscribers, leads, bookings, sales, repeat clients, and referrers.
So write that down.
And then I want you to think about this:
Does the way that you talk to someone change depending on where they are in that funnel?
Does the way that you talk to someone, does the way you market to them, does the way that you talk about your business, do the things that you even say to them change depending on where they are in that funnel?
I want you to give it some thought because that is what we are going to discuss next week.
All right. See you next week.
